A Saga of Irony
Irony is always the part & parcel of a career in any industry, specifically the film industry. Here one may be thrashed to drain or may be flashed to the spotlight. When it comes to the case of a new comer, his Godmother is CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification). To reach the CBFC, one has to run over many hurdles. Finally his fate is judged by the board which is accumulated with stereotypes who has no idea about new age cinema. Movies are in fact a medium to convey an idea or a theme . Or on the other side like slapstick comedy films. Indian film industry is degrading to meager concepts because most of the films released today lie in a rift between the two mentioned above. Experimental films occurs only in a while and that too is only by a handful of passionate people who want to make their own space in industry. This is due to the biased decision making of CBFC. The recently released film "DELHI BELLY " certified "A" for release was a good shot. In the film a particular scene showing "the actor getting an erection" was passed on by the CBFC which was something new to the Indian cinema which i think would never have reached This scenario can be best cited with the example of Anurag Kashyap. His first film "PAANCH" never reached the silver screen due to the narrow minded perspective of the Board. If it ever was released could have been the most mesmerizing and scintillating performance by the actor "KAY KAY menon. Still agony followed him through and his second film "Black Friday" was pulled from release by a stay by the court and problems with the censor board. This was due to the case filed by the persons who in the film is shown as the alleged perpetrators of the 93 Mumbai bomb blast . Then came No smoking which passed through without creating much rustle. His next film "Gulaal" which was a drama based on racism and also has a political subtext, was screened only after getting an "A" and 4 cuts which lost it initial momentum due to the delay in releasing. But the Passionate man never staggered back. He then gave us stylish yet masterful "DEV D". Directors like Anurag Kashyap are the new voice of Indian cinema. Even after being confronted with several hardships the man always maintains an exuberant mind and is striving to expand his space in the industry. No matter what the dirty play of politics can do to a film, it is the audience who has the choice to watch or ignore. People need to change themselves to a rational mind and so are their perspectives.
