Sneha Khanwalkar, The Nomadic Musician
We live in an era where our musicians are finding it hard to evolve and bring up some thing appreciable. Instead some of them bring a blend of contemporary western style into their music while some others become a copy cat concealing the theft by being in a denial mode. But unlike them, Sneha Khanwalkar belongs to an entirely different breed. While many spent nearly days toiling in their studios to crop up a music of their own, Sneha roams through out India in quest of authenticity she expects in her every tune. She finds it very intriguing to travel to distant parts in India and abroad to extract talent and music out from places we never expect it to be found. She believes that each place has got its own music and it is that particular flamboyance she likes the most. In her recent work i.e Gangs of Wasseypur, the sap of her music is as raw as Anurag's films. She had given almost two creative years of her life to this film. The song "chi cha" in this film is sung by a 12 year old girl Durga, who is like any kid we see daily in trains and buses singing songs to make their ends meet. Such is the genuineness of her music, the voice of the kid amply fits into the song's mood. In fact this is the reason of her being a nomadic musician. The song "Hunter" is sung by "Veedesh Sookoo" an Indian by origin from Trinidad. Sneha traveled from this end to Trinidad for this one particular song, recorded it and returned. Though she debuted in Ram Gopal Varma's film "Go", it was the Dibakar Bannerjee's National award winner film "Oye Lucky Lycky Oye" helped her stride the first leap in Film industry. She headed to Haryana to see Raagini Music festival where she got enough dough for her debut flick. For the song "O Womaniya" she traveled to Patna and roamed around. Finally she managed to get a group of women who are of typical Indian Household. She is now the main lead of the reality show "Sound tripping" in which she travels to relatively unknown and less famous places and plots music with the help of ambient sounds and local singers. Her prominence lies in the dare she has shown to excel where not many women had got a chance to prove themselves. Let's wish that she has miles to go in her career.
