Voila !
For serious cinephiles, it's not very often that we come across films that adheres so strongly to its tagline. V for Vendetta is one film that proves the above condition true. " Ideas do not bleed, Ideas do not feel pain, Ideas are bulletproof". Yes, not just the idea of the plot but the idea of the whole film itself is bulletproof. V, a utopian reformer, a shadowy vigilante, a brooding avenger is a unique character unlike the usual masked vigilante who heroically fights the goons of the city and saves the day. We have seen that over and over and had been only lucky to see a much enhanced version being brewed and overshadow its predecessors. Adapted from the famous comic by the same name by Allan Moore which is even greater than the adaptation as always. Hugo Weaver gives life to "V" through his emphatic voice and truly captivates his foes by his stentorian verbiage. As V quotes, " Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof." Filled with rich subtexts and engaging dialogues with literary affluence, V for Vendetta has many political allegories , the opening scene of the film leading to the protagonist is an overture of something that substantial. If you think the story is just about being against the law or a mere revenge, deign not to think like that. Set in a dystopian society which is not very far from now, the film just reaffirms that it should be the Government that should be afraid of its people and not the other way around. Coming from the Wachowskiz who gave a whole new dream to weave on for the aspiring film makers with their Matrix trilogy, this was like a spindle let off from a tightly wound shackle of gears. Every time you go back to this movie it gives you a feeling of reassurance that the Ideas are in fact bullet proof.
