Rockstar - Just a Time pass flick.
Forget promises.
Rock Star the film directed by Imtiaz Ali, is a big disappointment if you expected the film to be a promising one of Imtiaz. The film is just a romantic melodrama of two unlikely persons, posing to be a biographical insight into the life of a Rock Star. In the first scenes of the film , the protagonist is seen looking at Jim Morrison's Poster which is his idol, in his room which gives us a little hope that this film may do justice to it's title. But what we get to watch is less of a legend like Jim Morrison and more of a grief stricken and heart broken lover. What happens after throughout the film can be tucked into the song "Emotional attyachar" in the background. The director has used the most out of the cinematographer to induce the ravishing romantic touch to the film like the one which exclusively comes from Korean films. What lifts the film from the ditches in the path is the music of A.R Rahman which also fails to do the magic which all his iconic works did. Narghis Fakhri has good screen presence but the face twitches and plastic expressions reminds us of the amateur Katrina Kaif. What amazes the most is that Jordan (Ranbir) is seen enchanting the audience with the exuberant music from his electric guitar which has no cables. His hand just stays there in a fret in the guitar and he does not give an impression of a person accustomed to playing guitar from his childhood. What engages us the most is that the rage Jordan has towards the present system, negligence towards his fans, and an impulsive behavior stricken by sudden mood swings which keeps him apart from the stereotypical rock stars of the Bollywood films. The film has many slight shades of the film "Jab we met" which was one of the previous work of the director. The film also establishes a fact that " heart clenching music always comes from the musician with a tormented mind " which is not always so. In a nutshell, the film does not give a thing if we expect a lot, but only frames filled by the aesthetic portraits of the locales of Prague and the snow capped Himalayas.
